Miss Wongs

After a long and clammy day exploring the ancient Temples of Angkor Wat, what a relief it was to happen upon Miss Wong – a quiet hole-in-the-wall cocktail bar in a narrow laneway in the heart of the old French-quarter, behind Siem Reap’s pumping Pub Street.

Chinese silk lanterns bathe the outdoor tables and the 1930s Shanghai-style interior in a warm ruby glow. The service is super-friendly and within minutes of walking in we were nibbling pork and prawn dim sum, and sipping a Campari and soda and the house-special Bloody Mary – a spicy blend of house-infused local Kampot green peppercorn and chilli vodka, tabasco, tomato juice and celery sprigs.   If we hadn’t had plans to eat at Raffles Hotel, the bar menu could have easily been dinner – peking duck pancakes, a clay pot chicken broth and  Singapore noodles whizzed by our booth  leaving the most sumptuous aromas. Miss Wong is the perfect hostess, don’t miss her charms.
